The story begins with founder Jared Karr. After earning a degree in international business, he spent time in Indonesia with an organization that encouraged rural enterprise. There he first saw coffee at its origin and began to understand the long chain of growers, mills, and hands that meet in a single cup. He called that distant point the East Pole, and the name stayed with him. In 2015, with friends Jules Tompkins and Matt Chesla, he started roasting in a Grant Park garage, filling bags on a ping-pong table through cold nights and humid days. The charge they gave themselves was modest and lasting: serve Atlanta well. The flagship roastery and coffee bar opened at Armour Yards in 2017. What began as a small wholesale concern became a destination because the team never separated craft from courtesy.

That history is visible the moment the door closes behind you. Walnut surfaces and brass fittings catch the light. A glass partition reveals the roaster at work, so the guest is never far from the source of the cup. Nautical details—a ship, a diver, measured accents of brass—give the room a coherent theme without turning it into theater.
